Did 1962 Cutlass f-85s have self adjusting brakes?

I'm redoing all the brakes on a 1962 Cutlass f-85,and when I began

to work on the rear wheels I see that there is no self adjusting hardware

on either side. Is this because someone removed the self adjusters,or

because they were never on there coming from the factory?

If I need to replace them, where is a good source to get them.

Kanter catalouge doesn't show them. Haven't checked the front wheels yet,

I may need to get 4 sets.

If such parts were removed some other item would have to be inserted, eh? Occupy that space.

I have not heard of non-adjustable brakes. And, if it's adjustable, might as well make it self-adjusting.

I can't wait until they computerize brakes [more so than the ABS already in place]

Not when they were new. 63 was the first year for self adjusting brakes on the f-85 or Cutlass. I plan to update my car this winter to self adjusting. I think if you order the complete kits for the 63 from Kanter you will get the self adjuster setup. You will have to call them to be sure. The 63 parts will fit 62 but you have to change all the hardware.

You have to start working on older cars, Chris.

Actually, Mercedes offered a brake-by-wire system in the early 2000s. Called Sensotronic, there was no direct connection between the brake pedal and the wheels - at least not in the primary system. Due to the obvious safety issues, these cars had a SEPARATE hydraulic backup system in case the brake-by-wire system took a dump - which apparently it did frequently. There were two major recalls and Mercedes finally cancelled the system in 2005.

Thanks to all for your answers to my question.Decision made to keep brakes as is

because the car will only get 200 to 300 miles on it a season. 4 wheels worth of self

adjusters comes to almost $80 from sources I've found.

Hi, I know this is an old thread but where did you find a source to update to self adjusters?

Thanks

A 1963 F-85 or Buick Skylark. The backing plates and self adjuster hardware swaps onto the 1961-62 cars. That's going to be your only option.

Thanks. Yes I know the 63 has self adjusters that swap out but no known source other than find it used?
Thanks Joe
