Delmont 88 front disk brakes

Hello, I have a 68 Delmont 88 2DR hardtop. I want to put a front wheel disk brakes on the car. Does anyone know what model the Delmont 88 would be cross referenced to that has the same front end set up (delta 88/ chevy impala, etc) ? Oldsmobiles are a new beast to me so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin

The best thing to do Justin is to locate a complete setup from a 1969 or 1970 B or C-body Oldsmobile. B being the series your Delmont is, and C being the Ninety-Eight series. No, setups from Chevy, ETC will not work, and neither will the ones from the later model 1971 and newer large Oldsmobiles. The nice thing is, if you locate a setup of the spindles and rotors with hubs, and the rotors are too thin, disc brake rotors from a 2002 to 2008 Camaro or a 2006 - 2007 Cadillac CTS can be fitted to your hubs with some machining done. These rotors are the same diameter of the O/E rotors and the offset of the hub is so close that the floating brake calipers very easily compensate. I am embarking on this same adventure pretty soon myself. A master cylinder for disc brakes would be needed, new front rubber brake hoses for a disc brake car would be needed as would a proportioning valve to replace the brake distribution block on the drum system, these can be easily found from many of the vendors out there. PS> Original rotors do show up from time to time but are priced to the stratosphere.

Another option is to go with an aftermarket Scarebird conversion kit. OE disc brake parts are so rare for the early B/C bodies that the Scarebird kit might be a better option (despite the cost):

The Scarebird brakes are somewhat smaller than OEM discs for these cars, and every 1970 Olds full size came with disc brakes as standard equipment, so OEM disc brakes aren't as rare as you might think. The replacement rotors are the challenge, but as noted, that can be solved.

I used scarebird disc brake kit on a 68 Delta and am very happy with it!!! It's disc's and rotors for the 70s eldorado caddy witch are big car's. Also used drilled and slotted rotors that they make for the eldorado. Mine stops good!!!
