Just completed conversion, bleed the system ok, and sure enough light came on! Read every post I could fine and you tube. Should have done that first and threw away instructions with the kit.
The PVC tool would have been the best advice. Anyway, I tried all the tricks ( except using air pressure). Here is what i can tell you.
Brakes seem to work OK. Front and rear have flow. Fronts only will lock up on icy road. I can not turn rears by hand when up on stand. I assume valve is set to somewhat restrict rear brakes.
Opened up PF, slowly press peddle and light turns off/on (blinks). Ok, maybe all is going to be well? continue pumping and light continues to blink a little slower, finally I can hold pedal down with light out. Close bledder, release peddle. light out... but, as soon as I press peddle, light comes back on solid.
Thinking maybe another wheel location will do the trick.. Tried the other DF...light would stay on solid when pressing peddle. Tried both rears, same thing..the PF is the only one which affects the light. I repeated this same process expecting a different result! Brakes seem to work, but can not keep light off. Any help much appreciated.
I'm assuming that since this is a conversion, you have one of the Chinesium aftermarket brass combination valves, correct? Have you disconnected the wire from the combo valve to ensure this is the problem? If the light still goes on with the wire disconnected, the problem is not the valve. If it is the valve, here's what they look like inside and how to disassemble one.
Yes.. that is exactly the same valve. The connection to rear would be easy to remove and pull it apart if required. Opening the passenger front bleeder with a line in a bottle of fluid and pressing the brake, does make the light go on/off... so valve is moving... just can't "lock" it in place? Should I press quick and hard? or put air hose to rear bleeder?
Thanks Joe.
For my 72 Olds, I did a Wilwood caliper conversion along with new wheel cylinders in the rear. Afterwards, I bled and bled and bled the brakes and still had the light on until I drove down my driveway and stomped the pedal. I heard a click and the light went out and brakes work great. These valves can be finicky!!! Good luck!
