brake drums

brake drums

hi, ihave some brake drums i want to clean up ,to use them until i can get some new ones, any suggestions on what grit sand paper could be used , or any ideas, to clean the drum surfaces , i have new brake shoes, thanks to all, will.

After machining a drum I usually use something rather fine. I'd try to use the finest you can that will clean them up. How bad are they? You may want to see if you local Napa or someplace can turn them for ya.

There will be a minimum thickness cast onto the front of the drum. Get out a set of calipers and see if you're past the tolerance. If you're just at it or past, just get new ones.

Assuming they are good, use some 400 or 600 wet/dry sandpaper to clean up the inside surfaces, spray with brake clean. Blow clean with air, then respray with brake clean. Have fun!
