98-02 F-Body rear disc brakes (LS1 brakes) on a Olds Bolt in axel
98-02 F-Body rear disc brakes (LS1 brakes) on a Olds Bolt in axel
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has done the LS1 brake conversion on a bolt in axel (non-c-clip)?
I have a 72 cutlass with a 8.5 10 bolt, bolt in axels.
Any advice on the conversion? I have serched the web and only found upgrade instruction/videos etc. with the c-clip axel.
I see that the GM c-clip axel need a shim to line up the rotor/calipers properly. Will the bolt in axel need one? If so, thikness?
Thanks!
Morten

Morten:
I'm running '01 Blazer rear discs on my car, very similar to the LS rear disc set-up just smaller rotors (12" LS vs. 11'6" Blazer). I chose the Blazer parts over the LS for the parking brake set-up. They both have a "drum-in-hat" style parking brake but the Blazer has the cable mount built into the backing plate; with the LS parts you'll need to fabricate a mount for the parking brake cables. Here's a link to my build page, the rear brakes start at post #68 and again at post#79.

Thanks for the compliment. My project kinda stalled out at th ened of last year, I'm trying to get things moving again. I don't know about the thickness being the same between the Blazer and LS backing plates. I do know the LS rotors are 1.02" thick and the Blazer rotors only 0.79" thick. Don't know if that plays any part in the back plate dimensions.
I'm doing this, except with C6 brakes. I had a buddy make a bracket for the front and I am using ls1 backing plates in the rear. They are spendy, but I got a set on eabay cheap. I got a set of the fbody parking brake cables free from the junkyard. There is a set on ebay for only $60 right now, they usually go $150. I haven't figured out what or if I need a spacer yet.
