68 olds delta 88 brake / speed cable question

Does anybody know for sure where the speed cable is on a 1968 olds delta 88 2 dr. I’ve heard transmission I’ve heard front wheel so I can’t get a clear answer.

Also I’m having problems with the drum brakes in the front and I’m looking to just do a disc brake conversion . If the cable is on the hub /wheel is there any way to maintain that with the disc conversion or is there an alternate way to maintain the speedometer?

The cable runs to the left front wheel. You can see it if you look at the suspension arms. The dust cap has an internal feature that drives the square cable. NONE of these parts are available new, so take extreme care when removing or installing the dust cap to not break the plastic drive socket. The best disc brake conversion is the factory 1969-70 brakes from a full size (Eighty Eight or Ninety Eight). These are still available used. All 1970 full size Oldsmobiles came standard with disc brakes. No, nothing else interchanges. Impala parts do not fit. Aftermarket disc conversions like Scarebird use rotors that are smaller than OEM, so why spend the money. Yes, the 69-70 cars have the same speedo drive feature.

The adjustments are all out of whack one shoe hangs up sometimes and the car pulls hard to the left when you stomp on the brakes . One of the drums is messed up and needs to be turned I’m sure
