1968 Olds 98 drum brakes

I am having my front drums turned and I was wondering why the drivers side physically is different than the passenger side drum. The Driver drum has a large flange on it, where as the passenger side is a normal looking drum. Thanks for any information. Phil

One of the two drums has been replaced at some time in the car's life.

There were two different drums used on the 65-70 big cars- one with the large flange and no fins, the other without flange and with cooling fins. As Joe says, one has probably been replaced.

Brake Drums

Do you think having different drums will create any problems? I am dealing with a front end issue that occurs around 35 mph. I have replaced wheels and tires and still the problem remains. I have had the front end checked and I was told that everything was good. Any ideas? I know I am probably not giving you all the information you you like to hear, but that is what I know as of right now. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.

While you are wandering around in the wreckers you could be looking for a set of disc brakes for your '98...solves your brake drum problem...

Yeah, then you just need to find a source for 67-70 B-body rotors...
