Sealant

Hi, can anyone tell me, when I removed the chrome, wherever a bolt went through the bodywork there was this sealant type gunk, beige colour, Play Doh texture but sticks to anything.
Obviously a hole sealant but what was that stuff called back in the day?
What is its modern equivilent?
Some type of Sykaflex?

Thanks

It was called dum dum. Today's equivalent is strip calk and can be found at most auto parts stores.

I also have used windshield ribbon tape, butyl. It can also be found at most parts houses.
