Repop Trunk Lids

I've decided I need to replace my trunk lid and am considering going with a repop. The thing is, I don't want to get some POS. Anyone have any experience with repop trunk lids? What is a quality repop? Year One? Fusick? Or are they all from the same supplier and it doesn't really matter?

This is for a 1972 Cutlass Supreme convertible.

Thanks.

I have not heard bad things about the repop's, but I would think a used servicable one would not be very hard to find. Your going to pay freight either way.

I haven't made a final decision to get a repop, just considering it at this point. I have nothing against a high quality used one but being from the land of ice and salt, and since this is my first restoration, and since it's a W-30 and my baby, I want one that is pretty pristine if not perfect. Seems that you can't get much more pristine than a repop, but if the quality is crap and it won't fit properly then I wouldn't want a repop. Of course that being said, cost is always a factor.

So, I'm looking for people who have experience buying/using a repop trunk lid and whether they could recommend a quality one. You guys have way more experience than I do so looking for advice.

Thanks.

I have one from Parts Place and it fits great and looks great. I had to slightly modify where the key lock goes in, though. It is pointed slightly upward and I couldn't slide the lock holder in place, because of it. I had to tap it outward with a hammer to make it fit right. Other than that, it was perfect.

Rear deck lid

I purchased one from CPU Car parts, best price at the time, overall fit is fine and the trunk lock will be a slight issue. From what I have read, most of these stampings are by Golden Legion in Taiwan, shipped to a North Texas warehouse and distributed to numerous suppliers from there.

If it is true that CPU is the supplier. I would cehck with your local parts suppliers and even autowreckers. They often carry CPU parts. You might save on shipping and if you get it from them you can examine it prior to taking delivery. Saves from frieght claims and such.

Once again, be aware that there just isn't enough of a market for these parts that every vendor has their own supplier. All of the repro sheet metal comes from the same one or two factories in China. All the repro vendors sell the same things. Shop for the best price.

Convertables and 4 doors take the same trunk lid.For some reason it is not hard to find one for a 4door in great shape.
