front fender molding clips 68 442

I am ready to reinstall my moldings after paint. I am able to locate the plastic clips for the doors and 1/4 panels, but where can I get the plastic clips for the front fender molding? I have the metal stud clips for the first two hole locations, but the rear 4 holes have plastic clips that seem to just push into the fender.

I believe that those plastic clips are probably replacements. The clips (pretty sure they are original) for my '68 4-4-2 convertible and my '69 4-4-2 convertible were both the wire type that are fastened with a speed nut on the back side. I've looked for those clips at swap meets for the past 3-4 years now and I don't see them anymore. You might have to pick an alternative to the wire clips and/or the plastic clips that were with your car.

Don't know how I would get the metal spring type on without removing the fender again. I can't see any access to the back of the fender.

You are so right! It's a royal pain to get the wire clips on/off with the fenders installed. I tried it once on the driver side fender and got them off (accessed them between the fender and the inner fender but just tore the heck out of my left arm!). When I put them back on, they went on before the fenders were installed.

It's pretty easy when you take the fender liner off...just walk right in but the rearmost one might be a little tricky...

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I have no choice. So do I get the same metal clips that are used for the first to locations?

And here we have the answer as to why you have the non-original plastic clips. Whoever painted the car didn't want to remove the fender after paint to install the trim with the proper clips.

Au-Ve-Co manufactures all of these clips. Their catalog is on-line, though they only sell through distributors. Any auto paint store can get these clips, or specialty clip vendors also sell them.

Here are a couple of retailers:

Joe,

Thank you for the info. I will contact them if my local paint store can't get them.
