Front bumper

Hi All,
Looking for guidance for removing front bumper from my 69 Cutlass S. Any info on which braces or supports etc that should be removed and in what sequence would be helpful. Thanks in advance...Bob

First thing you should do is soak all the nuts with PB blaster or similar. There are 6 braces that should come off first. 2 in the middle near the plate and 4 on the ends.Then I usually remove the nuts that go between the brackets and the frame. So you remove the bumper with brackets attached. I have Had a couple of the chrome head nuts that go through the bumper round out the square hole and just spin, I think it's easier to work with when it's off the car. Also another person and a breaker bar help a lot.

Better penetrating oil

Use a mix of acetone and Automatic transmission fluid! Forget all the other stuff This is like magic for rusted nuts and bolts! Read about it on this forum. It will blow you away with how well it works!

Whats the mix ratio?

*edit*
Nevermind, found this interesting bit of intel with a Google search:

Machinist's Workshop magazine tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts. They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment. The results are as follows;
Penetrating oil........... Average load
None ...................... 516 pounds
WD-40 .................... 238 pounds
PB Blaster ................ 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ........... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ................ 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix...........53 pounds
The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50-50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone.
