Easier way to remove windshield sealer????

I hope I'm posting this in the proper section, (fairly new here), but i just removed my cracked windshield on my 70 cutlass and I was wondering if there is a "MAGICAL" solution for removing all the old sealer, other than screw drivers and putty knives??? I'm also prepping for paint in the near future so I figured i better get it nice and clean. Thanks

Heavy plastic scraper, rags and WD40.

Buy some razor blades and slide it across the edge at a 160 ish degree angle like a putty knife but since the razor blade is sharper it will cut it faster you gotta be careful. If you have a 3 in. grinder use one of the scotch brite roloc pads/ cookie looking buiscuit wheels and that will work great just tape off the trim and tape some plastic over the gaping hole so no crap gets inside. Also you can use your putty knife and heat it up with a propane torch. map gas. and that will also do the trick pretty good.

Plastic or wood scraping tools. Can be made from popsicle sticks or old CDs cut up. Both worked for me. They remove the sealer without tearing up any painted surfaces much.

Once you get the most of it off, WD-40 works wonders, as Oldcutlass said. You may want to soak the seal for a little while with some WD before you try and scape it off. It softens the stuff after setting up rock hard from 40+ years of sun!

If you used WD40, make sure you remove all the residue with naphtha or similar so that the new sealer will stick correctly.

Thanks for all the tips, i will be trying them this weekend. BTW, the sealant is still real gummy, its like trying to remove a ton of bubble gum, so I'm assuming the wd40 is mainly just for clean up after I've scraped most of it off?

Yes remove the bulk of it and then you can remove the thin layer that remains with the WD40. It's good for removing tar splatter and road grime also.

Try paint thinner to dissolve it.
