Butyl tape , windshield slid down?

I used butyl tape to put the rear glass in, I made spacers out of wood as they didn’t come with the butyl. I left the spacers on there for well over a week, then removed them, taped up the car and painted it. I just noticed today when I took the masking off the rear glass has slid down so I now must take it back out.. ugh. Are you supposed to leave the spacers permanently to hold the space? Frustrated

The seal used to come with the rubber setting blocks many do not today. They must remain there for ever else the glass will slide down.

It usually takes a while to find a kit with the blocks. I usually search ebay.

do you use the round tape or flat, 5/16 or 3/8ths?

1/4 5/16 3/8 are the sizes available, the thicker you use (round) the more difficult it is to get the molding to snap into the clips. Generally I lay the glass there without the seal and see if the glass touches all the way around or if there are gaps. If good a thinner seal can be used if not a thicker one I usually end up with a 5/16 or 3/8 butyl tape.

I got mine from belden speed, they don't have the web store up but they say they are still selling glass supplies.
