bolt sizes

I took the metal piece off the top of the radiator in order to paint it and I have lost the bolts, does anyone know what size they are? this is the metal piece that bolts to the top of the radiator about 2 feet long. under the top part that attaches to the car there is 7 washers used as spacers on each side, somebody help.

I'm assuming this is on your 72 Cutlass. If you have the other bolt slide the threaded end into an open end wrench, 5/16, 3/8, etc... Which ever it fits snugly is the diameter, then measure the length from the bottom of the head to the end, then determine if its fine or course thread (pitch). Bolt sizes are based on diameter-pitch x length.

So of the bolt slides into a 5/16 wrench and is 1 inch long and it's course thread then it is a 5/16-18 x 1 bolt.

I believe those are supposed to be flange bolts flange bolts and the 7 washers on each side sounds like it has been modified in some fashion.

Do you have a bolt that will screw into the nut plate under the top cover. Then you can measure that.

The bolts that hold the radiator top plate are 5/16" (shaft) x 18 (thread/inch) x 3/4"(length). The bolt head size is 1/2"

I don't have a 67 to reference them too Eric... but I do have a 72 Cutlass S.... I would say yes, but without the locking feature on the bottom of the flange.

These are on Allans car, 5/16-18x3/4 Flange Bolt. I will add that nowhere did the factory place 7 washers under any bolt.
