70-72 Convertible repro trunk lid

Looking to purchase a re-pro trunk lid like listed in the Title.

Anyone have any advise or experience with these ? Don't want to order one just to find out its junk.

Thanks Chris

I would check to see what (if any) holes are drilled for the emblems.

A 71-72 Supreme should have 20 holes for the individual O-L-D-S-M-O-B-I-L-E emblems and if those aren't there or are not drilled correctly I would avoid that trunk lid. Can you imagine trying to drill 20 holes precisely enough so the letters are evenly spaced and perfectly aligned?

A 70-72 442 would have the 4-4-2 emblems on the right corner, which would be easier to drill holes for.

A 70 Supreme lid would have a rocket emblem around the lock and a Cutlass script on the right corner.

As you see, a generic lid can't be pre-drilled for the various applications, so check to see what / if any holes are there so you know what work you have to do to get the emblems installed.

Don't know of any problems with fit but they are made of slightly thinner steel I believe so you have to be careful, for example, if the car is dead and you're trying to push the car by hand. Do that with hands pushing on the decklid and you may end up with a small depression/dent. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of.

Had a customer with one on his '71 Supreme convert and that happened to him. They were able to have a PDR guy remove the dent.

I was mostly concerned with fitment. I have a 442 so only a few #S to install and I always cut the studs off the emblems and lightly adhesive them.

Thank you for all of the reply's

Thanks, this is what I was afraid of.

I think I might fix my original one.
