1972 cutlass Torque box questions and frame removal
Ok so im replacing the torque boxes on my 72 and im also boxing the frame and adding some new metal in thin areas. My question is I looked at the parts place and they have single and double mount whats the difference ? the doble mount is 30 bucks more which aint much but is there a difference or is it just more rigid ? Before I get hassled about using the parts place I live 25 minutes from their store so I get to see what I pick up. Any help is appreciated.
I also was wondering about removing the frame I assume the bolts to the body mounts will break and if it's like my dads Pontiac I will have to cut sheet metal to get to other broken half. Any tips on this. Im not doing a frame off resto just fixing what I have a reinforcing it .

Don't know if this helps, but I found a thread related to your question. Maybe give one of the folks who responded a PM?

Thanks I saw that thread ., but my question was mainly about the body mount tq.box whatever ones wants to call it lol. There is 2 different ones available one is double ? dunno id this is for rigid apps like convertables or it's all bs. I just wanted to ask around but I guess I will have to see them in person to compare. I know I gotta take the body off and all that just want to make sure on the different apps. for the body mounts.
I got the pieces already. I have had good luck with the dynacorp stuff in the past. I hope they fit decent enough to not screw things up. A friend of mine has a few cutlasses in great shape so I'm going to take some measurements from key points to specific point on the body mounts to make sure I'll be alright

I've only seen the double torque boxes on Buick cars, never seen it on an Olds. I had a friend in college that had a nice driver Skylark and it had the 2-bolt torque boxes. The pic below is from my '72 convertible project. It has a single-bolt torque box, so I don't think it was a convertible-only thing.

The 70-72 Cutlass/442's have the single boxes. It sounds like you already have them, but if you still need some,I have some perfect originals.
Having the frame out is a perfect time to box the rails, and add gussets & braces to areas that were never very strong. The rear crossmember is prone to cracking where it welds to the rails.
