door belt weatherstrips.

Ok... A bit bummed here. I got my stuff from Fusick. Most of it is pretty nice. Bumper chrome is nice. Front fits acceptable. but my door and quarter belt mouldings are not going to work I don't think. The quarter ones are too long and not close to the right curve. Anyone have any ideas? Try to reshape them or suggest where I can get ones that fit. I'm a bodyman by trade so a bit of modification isnt out of the question but these don't look like they will ever look right. Especially on sonething that I will look at every time I get in it.

Call Fusick, tell them your problem.

I had a similar issue with the "correct style" "Repops" brand outer quarter felts.
Here is a snip from Lady's resto log:

"When I went to replace this outer strip, the new Repops piece had a poor fit - it was not bent enough so there was a big gap in the middle… It took a lot of bending and forcing and I had to drill holes in it for the screws. After I finally got it in, it was so bowed outwards there was a 3/16” gap at the center between the felt and the window.
SOOoo, I marked two areas where I would cut relief slots in the metal strip so it would bend easier and conform to the window sill. I cut the rubber away from the metal with a knife and used tin snips to cut only the metal. This way the metal will be cut but the cut will be hidden by the felt and rubber and not be visible through the window. I installed the piece and it all worked well. Lastly I had to bend the piece inwards since I warped it before. Now it seals against the window just like it should.

Working on an old car takes LOTS of creative engineering work... "

AHHH ok,

im not the only one, who has problems with the window felts....

I`ve tried mine before painting and they fit terrible....

The front door felts look good, but the precutted holes for the screws, doesnt line up with the holes in my door shell... that would be no problem....

The quarter felts totally dont fit.... the round curve was not correct and also ive tried to bend them in but that didnt work....

I have to say that i bought the repro ones from Partsplace...
I thought about buying the oem ones but dont know yet...

I can remember, on my 71, the windowfelts were about 20 mm `s wide and the repros i got from ppi.com had a chrome bed with about 4 mm´s

I dont want to buy the oem ones and get the same sh*t....

Has someone any picture from a oem felt ????
And/or an oem vs. repro felt....

Thanks and sorry for stealing your thread!!!!

Well, Fusick is pretty cool about it. If I need, they will take em back. The new ones I got are longer than the ones he took out of the box and measured. I'm thinking I will try Steele rubber parts however I drive right past Metro Moulded Parts on my way home every night. I have the origional ones in my pickup and I was gonna stop there today but I got there 3 minutes after 5 and they close at 5. I really do hate that. Especially when I stay late to get other peoples cars done all the time.

I got the Repops brand OEM style (more expensive ones). Appearance wise they are pretty close to original.
Only issue was the quarter outside felt curvature (mentioned above).
Inside fit fine.

Here is the rear:

Here is a poor shot of the inside door panel:

The felts for the doors looked like original and installed fine - I was happy with them.
I can take some detail pics when I get home if they would help ya...

I had the same problem with the qtr window strips from Fusick, so I sent one of my originals to them for a pattern and got back perfect fitting wx strips. BTW, had to do the same thing on another car, I don't think the jig used to bend these things is that accurate..

I stopped at Metro Molded parts today. They have the Repops brand kit. It's a lot closer to the origional shape but over 200.00 for their kit. If I'm going to have to modify them anyways, I may as well play with the ones I have.i have one more lead. restoration specialties. the guy from steele rubber products say they are pretty much spot on. im gonna call them tomorrow. ill keep ya posted.

So does anyone know which brand of window felt fits the best?

Is sending the old felt to Fusick the answer?

I want to replace the felt on my 68 442 Convertible.
