Hey everyone. This is my 1972 Cutlass S. I'm pretty far along in the body work and slowly getting everything primed. The only major issue left is the rusted out spots around the front and back windshields. I haven't been able to find parts for the sail of the back quarters that has the window channel. I've got some rusted out spots and need help with ideas. A new roof would take care of the top part but not the sides of the where the rear windshield is. Are there replacement parts or patch panels out there or will I have to cut new metal and replace? Any help or guidance is much appreciated.

 

Long before patch panels were available, I rebuilt the rear window channels on a 66 Lemans for a friend. The entire bottom, and about 6-8 in. up the sides. I made some templates of what they should look like, and made measurements, as well. I put reference marks on the metal I wouldn't be using, to precisely locate the templates.
The pieces I made out of 18 ga. steel, bent to 90*, and I bought a shrinker-stretcher to put the curves in the pieces. This also made for less pieces, and less weld seams.
The job came out perfectly, just a bit of body filler to finish it up. I put POR-15 on the backsides of the new metal, and welds, and it still looks good almost 20 years later.

 

I do not believe patch panels are made for the side area. As said it is fairly easy to make, bend patch pieces yourself. Here are a couple of pictures of what I did on a 72.

 

I have a couple parts cars that are good in that area. I can cut out what you need & ship about anything anywhere. Call for more info?
