Calling All Vinyl / Landau Top Experts - 1978 Holiday 88
Thanks in advance for your help, this is my first time sorting out a car with a vinyl roof…
I have a 1978 Holiday 88 that came with small opera windows and a padded half landau top with no trim around the rear window.
I have removed the old worn top and I’m cleaning up the little bit of rust that not surprisingly got under there.
I’d really like to put a non-padded full vinyl top on the car, with the trim around the rear window. I have all the trim pieces to do this.
HOWEVER…
The B pillars by the opera window are uneven in shape and have protruding screws. I assume this means I must use a padded vinyl top with some closed cell foam under it??? (To cover the uneven shape and the screws…)
If so, I assume that also means I have to do a half landau top? I’ve never seen a full vinyl top with the padding…
Alos, any idea what thickness of closed cell foam would be used? 1/8"? 3/16"? 1/4"?
Thoughts?
Suggestions?
Recommendations?
Thanks again

You'll have to remove those trim bars to do a full vinyl roof. Plenty of base Delta 88 coupes came with no or full vinyl roof covers, and those didn't have the trim retainer bars on the B pillars.
Looks like the drip rail was altered to accommodate the Landau roof's basket handle trim. With that in mind I'd take them off and clean them, then reinstall them and go back with the Landau top treatment. It'll be the simplest and easiest way.

Rocketraider -- Thanks for your help.
Any reason I couldn't clean the trim bars and reinstall them and still put a full vinyl top on the car???
I know it won't be 100% correct but I prefer the full vinyl top to the half / Landau top.
