Edge of trunk replacement

Hi everyone.

I have a 70 Cutlass convertible and the bottom lip of the trunk edge, where the weatherstrip goes, has rusted through. EVERYBODY knows the convertible uses the 4 door trunk lid, so my question is, do I cut that piece out of a 4 door, or can I get it out of a regular Supreme, or should I just seek out another convertible I can cut it out of? The obvious choice would be another convertible, I know, but I'd like to have some options.

Thanks everyone.

Just in case you do not know, the trunk gutter channel metal is reproduced by Belden Speed. If you are replacing a straight section you may want to consider it.

Sweet. Without looking I don't recall if the damage goes around the curve or not, but it does say it can be [I don't remember what they called it, triangled or something like that] and bent around the curve. Never even heard of this place, thanks Tri-Carb.

depending on how much rust you may need to create a companion piece

Mike,
The difference between the 4 door / convertible lid and the hardtop Supreme lid is the forward corners. The 4 door / convertible corners are rounded, whereas the hardtop Supreme corners are square. One of the local Olds club members transformed a regular Supreme lid into a 'vert lid for his '71 by grinding and mig welding those corners. So the channel would be the same.

Another outfit, called Rust Replace, has that channel as well. It may be the same stock.

What I found when I logged into Belden Speed Shop was they created a new website, RustReplace.com so they are one and the same.

Here I was sweating having to get this piece fixed, sounds like it will be a fairly simple task. I'm not going to do it, but it doesn't look like I'll have trouble hiring someone to do it.

Ah, the twisted (inter-)webs that are woven! Glad it's working out for you!
