Scarlet

First my painter tried the Scarlet PPG code which basically comes up in databases as Rally Red, which looks orange. Then the underside of the trunk lid was cleaned and buffed and then scanned and the paint didn't match worth a crap. My painter ending up have 3-4 small batches made. He masked 1/2 the underside of the trunk lid and painted the other side until it matched. FWIW the underside of the trunk lid and the final paint matched very well however because it was used for color testing, it was also painted

Original trunk lid before buffing:

Final color:

My '69 442 was originally Nassau Blue with Parchment interior.

In the 90's, it was all redone and now sports Burgundy Mist with Black interior.

The 1969 442 may be Oldsmobile's most beautiful car of that era. And yours is one of the best. Well conceived and well done!

Thank you for the very kind words. Here is a link to a thread of my build. Hope you enjoy!

Jerry likes the special paint cars!

WHAT A GREAT COLLECTION OF CARS AND COLORS!

Its amazing what finding a car with a stock color will do for you…
‘I personally don’t love red…I’d never opt for a red car.
But I now have 3 red cars and each will be red when restored.

I love the white walls on your 98. Are they Cokers, 235/75 R15s?

Colour code J-2 , i heard the car had been repainted in US one time but not sure about that. There is a stripe in height of the
doorhandle from front to back , don´t know if this is original. But the car colour are identical to SAAB no 230 scarabee green.

My Dynamic 88 have code VV and that should be Almond beige but is painted yellow , Saffron yellow maybe ?

Provencial white- I forget the code, but the color and the tag code match. Funny though- I was told it's all original and preserved, always garaged survivor car, but there are chips in some places that expose red paint underneath. I suspect the car is not as original as I was led to believe.

Provencial White with a white top and red interior.

What you may be seeing is red primer.
According to an old timer that worked at Fisher Body, these bodies were dipped in a vat of red primer, sanded on the external surfaces, and then painted.

That might explain it, Charlie. Thanks.

And BTW- I received my bumper core from Larry Camuso today. I'm looking for a good plater now, probably will have both bumpers plated. I can't just do the rear bumper and leave the front looking as bad as it does.

Glad you found a good rear bumper.
Larry Camuso seems to find a lot of good, rust free, California parts.

My 72 Oldsmobile is Pinehurst Green. It is the original paint from the factory other than the white stripes on the hood that were applied by the dealer when the car was sold. The paint is worn and thin but presentable.

Code 29, Dark Blue Metallic. This was repainted in 2002 and the final product was slightly off (lighter) than the factory code color.

Thanks both Olds are 1965. The 98 was bought from Ten Mile , Tennessee in 2018 and shipped to Sweden. But was sold new in Cleveland Heights.

Mustang Laser Red Metallic. Not a big fan of red cars. But when I saw her, I had to have her!

PineHurst Green

My 72 is still the original paint except for the white hood stripes that were applied by the dealer when it was new. It is Pinehurst Green. This photo was taken at the Olds Nationals in Dayton.
