Tighten outside mirror?

Is there a way to tighten the head on this kind of mirror?

You can try and pry the glass out and see.

Knew a guy who took some G-U-M floss toothpicks & inserted them (then cut the ends off) from the back to tighten the ball. Doesn't sound very fancy but it worked none-the-less. I would even think some of those skinny toothpicks might work.

Chief has some good ideas. I was "lucky" and the glass broke in mine, allowing me to replace the loose rivets on the ball tensioner bar with screws before installing the new mirror. Been holding for ~35 years.

Johnnys post reminded me long ago i had a similar type mirror that was loose and was able to tighten up with the glass removed bt bending the plate that applies pressure to the ball.

if its a repop you my need to replace that piece w something better.
