Who has the best quality weatherstripping parts and lasts the longest before splitting/coming apart?
Fusick has them as do other places. Are they all getting them from the same source like Soff Seal?

Experiences? Advice?

Any weatherstripping you buy and install is going to be better than the OE weatherstripping. Don't forget to check out Steele Rubber.

Yeah, anything is better than what is in there now since it is 54 years old. However, I bought Soffseal stuff for my Gbody for the T-tops and the car has been garaged ever since and the stuff is splitting and coming apart just from sitting in the garage.

I wonder what the heck the difference is.
Are they all made by Soffseal resold by the above vendors? The YearOne offering is specified as Soffseal. The others don't say.

 

I thought Soff Seal and Steele Rubber were different manufacturers, or at least used to be. When looking at their parts there were very obvious differences.

 

My advice is to check PART NUMBERS. There are only two or three manufacturers of weatherstripping, and vendors like Fusick, Rock Auto, and your local auto parts store just resell them. But prices can vary A LOT, as you've found out.

A few years ago I was redoing the weatherstripping on my '67 Delta 88, and I made a spreadsheet comparing the various vendors. As one example, I wanted a new set of door seals.

I still have the spreadsheet, and here's what I found.

Autozone, part no. LM 21-I, $94.71
Metro Molded Parts, part no. LM 21-I, $107.20
Steele Rubber Products, part no. 70-1764-72, $119.60
Rubber the Right Way, part no. 12-138D, $97.98
Rockauto, part no. LM 21-I, $64.79
USA Parts Supply, part no. S20.150BT, $95.49
Carparts.com, part no. LM 21-I, $80.44.

Of the above, only Metro Molded and Steele manufacture the rubber. The rest are just reselling something made by someone else. Note also that Metro Molded, Rockauto, Autozone (yes, don't forget to check your local auto parts stores, too, as they can usually order it), and Carparts.com all have the same part number. This is what you want to look for. They're all selling the same thing, and it's the Metro Molded rubber. I think Metro is a quality brand, and it surprised me that all of the other vendors sell it for less than Metro itself does with Rockauto being the cheapest at $65. I think that Fusick also resells Metro parts, but they use their own part numbering system. For all I know, some of the other vendors might do the same thing. One could call some of these vendors and ask who the manufacturer is, but I didn't see the need to.


Needless to say, I bought it from Rockauto.
