Evenly pry with a plastic tool and use a backer of plastic or wood wide enough to not transfer the leverage load directly to the lid. They should easily pop out but some can be stuck thus the recommended use of a backer...

Buy spare barrel nuts.
Be aware after the car is painted you may need to rat tail out the holes. Brush paint into the filed holes let it dry then insert the letters.
Run zinc-rich primer in the trunk lids lower sheet metal seam before paint to give it some rust protection. It's a known bad spot on 68-72 A body lids.
