Quarter window trim piece problem

Quarter window trim piece problem
Hi, my driver side quarter window trim piece fell off the window and I was going to use some glass setting tape to reinstall it but had some questions first. Should I buy 3/64" tape or get some 1/32"? Do I have to take the quarter window out to install the chrome trim properly? Anybody have any pointers on how to do it? Thanks

You don't need to remove the 1/4 window. I just put a new one on and used black GE Silicone to install it. Once it sits 24 hours to cure, it is very difficult to remove. It also seals out water from geting behind the rubber and rusting. My original lasted 41 years. If this one matches that, I'll be 104 years old.

IIRC, I used 1/32" thick rubber pond liner material. The clean rubber gripped great. Trimmed off the extra material after the chrome channel was fully seated. I used a rubber mallet and a block of wood to set the chrome trim with the window still installed (only because this was found after the car was done).
This black soft rubber was very similar to the black gasket material used at the factory to set this chrome piece.
