dent repair
Errant golf ball found my minivan, creating, obviously, a golf-ball sized dent below the rearmost side window. The dent is probably only a quarter inch deep but is very noticeable.
No creases or chipped paint. Just a depression.
Suggestions for cheap repair...by a guy with no experience in this sort of thing (me)?

it actually happened last year while driving past a course but I didn't have time to turn around and visit the club office...and procrastinated, thought I'd be wasting my breath, etc.
On the internet I see examples where a guy heats the area with a hair dryer, then squirts cold air from an inverted can of compressed air.
Is that legit ?

Hot to cold will shrink metal. The hair dryer would depend on how much the metal is stretched. Also heat lamps or hot sunny days with dry ice.
I've watched body guys with a torch and wet rag do wonders. But they burned the paint off.
