Just read some scary reviews about NuChrome...think I'll stay away. Anyone out there ever use New England Chrome Plating in East Hartford?

I talked to a re-chrome guy set up at Carlisle Fall swap meet thats from Boston area. I'll try to find his business card as I had considered sending some things to him but havent decided yet. Will get back if i can find it! it was a small shop -- 1 or 2-man operation and he sounded very genuine and had some nice display work pieces.

Surface Plating in Providence, R.I. does chrome, but not bumpers.

They also do other plating as well.

Good folks to do business with.

STAY AWAY from Nu-Chrome! I paid A LOT to have them re-chrome the rear bumper on my Jetstar, far more than the going rate, based on a promise of a show-quality job. It took them twice as long to do it as they promised (just shy of 6 months) and the end result was not worth the money or the wait. 5 years on, the chrome has held up fine, but the prep work was lacking, and as a result, there is some "wavy-ness". It looks worse in some light and some agles than others; guess it depends on how particular one is, but I for one was not satisfied. I have seen reviews from others (only after the fact, sadly) that confirm that my experience is far from unique. Benefit from my experience and STAY AWAY (it bears repeating). The rear bumper on my car is the one thing that detracts from it most.

It is said that a picture says a thousand words. See attached. It costs enough to fix up an old car when you have to pay for it ONCE (which is the only reason that bumber is still on my car).

Have you tried Ogden Chrome? I've yet to have anything rechromed on my cars but I've heard lots of great things about them and they are reasonable! Triple plating too. I got a quote of $405 for front or rear bumpers on my '76 98. They're not at all local to our area but they pay the shipping both ways so you don't even have to drop off/pick your parts. Their turn around is pretty quick too. Check them out:

Did you have any pitting or repairs needed? I'm in Providence so this would be fantastic..
