How to set points (455)

So I was wondering if anyone had any good tips on an easy way to set the points on my 68 Delta 88? I looked at the shop manual but it says to use all these fancy GM tools that you probably can't get any more.

Yes, very simple. The only tools you need are a 'Dwell Meter' and an allen wrench. Set the dwell to 30 degrees.

I'll add you also need a timing light as when you set your dwell it will change your timing. This tool will help with the points:

If you don't have a delimiter set them at 16 thousandth.

Yup. Nothing easier. Connect dwell meter, turn Allen key (preferably springy purpose-built one, but a rigid L-shaped one will do) until needle points to 30°, connect timing light, re-set timing if necessary.

It's even easier than that.
Old Racer's Trick
Turn adjuster in [CW] until engine falters
turn back out [CCW] exactly 1/2 turn.
Voila' 30 degree dwell plus or minus 2 degrees, per spec.

I verified this once long ago on my '68

Be sure to not touch the contacts with your meat hooks. If you do clean them with a lint, grease free towel with contact cleaner(or brake cleaner). Clean the feeler gauge as well before (if) you use them. If not the oil will cause pitting in a short period of time. Also be sure the dist cam is clean then lightly regrease bumper with a dab of grease in the favor of dist rotation
