Picture needed of original 1968 455 engine
Hi there, I just introduced myself in the NEWbee thread and I do have much to learn...
I recently bought a 1968 Delmont88 holiday coupe with the famous 455 engine in it. Because the car hasn't been on the road for more than 20 years it is still in good original state and I like to have it that way.
So I need to repace a lot of stuff under the hood and like to repaint the airfilter and valve covers to begin with. The AC unit isn't original, to bad....
This it how its looks now

Where the valve covers really (firetruck) red and shiny?
What color was the engine it self and so on...
Does someone have a (large) picture to see exact what colors were used, 43 years ago, to compaire and rebuild??
Already thanks for your answers!

Thanks!
Thats what I thought. Seached the whole internet...but wanted to be shure!
Anyhow, the color seems to be red/orange and not Firetruck red for the valve covers. It's a 2 barrel carburator, thats why I think the airfilter has to be black. (and the 4 barrels are red?)
@Jerry: wow, you got the original A/C unit!
Oke, now I have to find myself some paint
All 1968-69 455s were red (actually a red-orange) except for those in Toronados. 1970 was the first year for the metallic blue paint

cool car... i think the red color is correct for those years, not sure about the 2 bbl., 4 bbl. difference, probably true too. some motors were gold, not sure if the 455 was. i knew someone when i was a kid that had a '68 98 w/ a 455, can't remember engine color though. paint it the color that makes it go the fastest.
