Alternator and bracket for '61 394
I am looking to remove the stock generator off my '61 394 and use a modern GM (1) wire alternator around 75 amps. Is this do-able or can I use an alt from a later 60's Olds? thanks.
I tried using alternator brackets off a 62 394 and put them on both a 59 and 60 394 and it does not work.. There are no holes in the earlier heads to directly bolt on later alternator brackets. I ended up using the stock generator arm and a cheap chevy alternator base mounting bracket ( minor fabrication) and used a GM 1 wire alternator
Okay I have a alternator bracket I bought in case I wanted to do this down the road on my 61 Olds 394. I read the posts so I checked my head for the holes and they are there. So I can only assume they changed the heads in 61. So to answer your question yes you can use the bracket. Two of the holes are being used by the generator bracket already.
