Fuel Pumps

What’s everyone using for a fuel pump on their Old’s 455 with Edelbrock aluminum heads? Mainly street use, odd fun on occasions. Looking around 500 hp nothing crazy. I am reading that it is difficult to find a mechanical pump to fit with the Edelbrock heads?

The Airtex 40736 fits, and supplied enough fuel for my buddies 66 cutlass to run 12:20 with ease.

Not bad for a 40 dollar pump.

Thanks Matt. He has the Edelbrock aluminum heads and fit as not a problem?

What version of the Edelbrock heads? The latest release has a relief cut to provide clearance for mechanical pumps. I'm running a RobbMC mechanical pump on my 500 hp 455.

Newer version - 61025. Is this for all mechanicals or just the RobbMC?

Hard to find an Airtex 40736, most everywhere lists it as out of stock.

Generic recess, they didn't make it specifically for any one pump.

The Airtex 40736 pump I bought several years ago before the teardown is NIB. It is too tall and not fitting my Edelbrock 61025 heads. I have installed a RobbMC pump and not without modifications to the pump and head. Readings from VI Cutty helped with a few things. I cannot get my pump rotated as far as he has his sitting in the second pic he posted. I think I had that dang thing in and out, what seems like 50 times.

50 times seems about right! I was able to achieve the rotation by removing a bit of material from the blue 90 degree fitting so it nestles into the corner of the block. The rotation in the top photo isn't where it wound up sitting, take a look at the inlet line position in the finished pic.

This is why it is called Hot Rodding. At least it's all bolt on stuff. I've kept all the stock W-30 stuff (although I am using the original block and crank).
I couldn't get it rotated as far as you did, the steel plate that the fasteners screw into that hold on the top only clears the block where that plate has the edge cut flat. My fuel will need to exit the pump through the top, getting passed the alternator bracket will be fun. I am going to try and find another bracket to make the revisions on.
