Aftermarket A/C 66-442

Part of the restoration on my 66 442 is adding a/c to the car. Didn’t come stock with the car…..need to add it. Looking for input on who offers an aftermarket a/c unit. I hear that some companies offer it for the 350 and 455 engines, but not the 400 which is what I have. Don’t know/think if I could find any original parts.
Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Vintage Air and Classic Auto Air are the 2 most well known companies supplying retrofit A/C systems for old musclecars.

Classic Auto Air I believe also makes, repairs and/or reproduces factory parts but if your car didn't come with it anyway, it's a clean slate to go full retrofit with an updated system like VA's.

I've had one of VA's retrofit systems in my '72 for several years and it's great. Electronic controls eliminates vacuum switching and mechanical cable requirements. Also eliminates the under-hood Evap core unit and completely freed up the right side of my engine bay.

I am also looking at a complete engine kit, compressor, alt, p/s, brackets , pulleys, etc, with the car not having factory air, this seems to me like a logical approach. But it appears none of the aftermarket supplier has a kit for a 400hp engine, just the 350 or 455.

Any brackets designed to fit the 455 should work on the 400. They both share the same deck height.

My understanding is there is no plug and ply kit for a 66 442.. there are for Chevelles but not 66 442.
