Torker intake question.

Why is the coolant port on the left rear of my 455 torker intake manifold solid ( blocked off) Is this normal?

Go read the answer I gave you on Facebook. Where would you think that coolant should be going?

I read your answer and I appreciate it. I don't know much about how the coolant circulates in the head. I had assumed it had to go through that port to complete the loop. I didn't have a head with me while I discovered that port but I will look at it and with your response it may make sense to me. Again thank you for the response.

Coolant in the intake manifold isn't helping the engine. The hottest part of the engine is the cylinder head. There are internal passages in the head casting, which is where you want the coolant to be. Coolant comes up from the block through holes in the head gasket into the head. This is not an Olds but the coolant flow it the same.

That was why I was concerned initially. I thought the blockage would stop the flow through the head but I understand now. Thanks again

You'll note that every factory intake manifold also has that port covered. Keep in mind that the heads are the same casting for RH and LH, so while that blocked coolant port is at the back on the driver side head, the same port opens to the coolant crossover at the front of the intake on the passenger side head.

No, not all factory intakes have that port blocked. Some big block and small blocks don’t.

do you need pics?

Here, I'll save you the trouble. Casting 412753, used on 1973-74 BBO. Different castings with the same casting number, one with no boss and blanked off, one with a boss not drilled, one with a boss drilled and tapped with a plug.

Yes the 412753 , some have them. both the late aluminum A4 and A5 intake have them as well as the 260. There could be more..that’s what I know of
