Lots of people say get the lightest pistons for your 455.
I understand why, keeping the moving parts mass low and all. Especially the pistons that have to constantly and abruptly stop, accelerate in the opposite direction, abruply stop etc. Up to 10000 times a minute (5000rpm)
I also understand that for most cruiser rebuilds it's really not going to matter a whole lot, but for a high performance build it's crucial to keep the internal moving mass to a minimum.
I found it really difficult to find piston and connecting rod weights on websites when I freshened up my 455. Actually I still dont know what the pistons I used weigh.
Maybe I was just looking in the wrong places or not asking the right questions..
FYI, I used Wiseco PTS537AS Tru Pro, -15cc 4.125" Std bore. (I only check measured and rehoned the std bores, budget build.)

Is it worth this forum starting a list of pistons and weights people are using, here or somewhere else for interest and reference for people to have that information to see?

 

Wiseco should have been able to tell you the weights. You also should have had the crankshaft balanced as those pistons are probably significantly lighter than the stock ones. If you did then the balance shop should have a record of the weights.

 

Despite numerous emails at the time to the supplier and Wiseco I didn't get a reply to weights before I purchased them. I chose them on a recommendation from a forum member.

 

Just for future reference .... I always pick up the phone and call. I actually called Wiseco about something last week. No hold time at all. I dont know what it is with performance companies but they do not seem to like to respond to e-mails.

 

Not every batch from any given manufacturer will be the same. Some companies publish their weights but those are just a guideline at best.
