455 has a new best time at track

I don't know why my 455 runs as well as it does but I aint complaining. It is a 455 .030 over with about 9.5-1 compression, E heads small valves, factory manifolds, W30 intake manifold, Summit ordered exhaust cutouts installed and opened, Quadrajet 4bbl, 3.42 gears, 5 speed Doug nash transmission and a clutch that was marginal. It managed to run a 13.11@103MPH in a 71 442. My 60 foot time was 1.9 and I do believe it could run a 12.95 on a perfect run.

We had planned on running our 65 Biscayne but I lost another cam lobe on the 454 so we installed a 5 speed with a 3.27 first gear because the wide ratio Muncie was too hard to launch the Olds with 3.42 gears.
It was a great day

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like your having fun with your car. There is a local drag strip but so few Oldsmobiles run at it I wish I had more time/money to try it myself. John

The intake and exhaust manis are choking it out. It has more. If your miles per hour was over 102, you should have a mid 12 in her.

Mugzilla, I ran it closed with my Old Muncie 4 speed and it ran a 13.4 with @103mph. The pipe size is 2.25 with dyno max super turbos. It doesn't respond a great deal to having the exhaust open. I ran the same mph and a little faster probably due to the transmission change. I've had this happen before with another Olds years ago.
I think a mid 12 is out of reach, I'd settle for a 12.99.

I have the same exhaust except for flowmasters. You have to run mufflers at the local strip and they always say a closed system is just as fast as an open one. I run high 15s but I'm rebuilding the engine and will be happy to run 14s...

Sounds like you have a handle on it. Nice #s. The sixty foot is key to Oldsmobiles.
