58 Olds carby swap

Yea Gidday ....
following on from last post
After blocking off all vacuum lines on carby including brake booster . Engine would still not tune 🤓🤓 dug a bit deeper as the old girl ( the car that is ) has had a carby change from original to a 4 barrel 670 Holly , vacuum secondaries with an adapter plate ....and look what I found ....My question is ....it cant be the first 371 ta have this done ....what have you guys done to make this right please
Also .....we dont have really cold weather in our part of NZ , bout the same as vegas ... has any body blocked off the exhaust part of inlet manifold to reduce heat buildup in engine bay as I reckon it is boiling the fuel in the bowls of the holley

Your best bet would be to ditch that Holley and find an original Rochester 4GC carb .
I can't imagine that the throttle valve linkage to the trans was properly connected .
This will cause the trans to shift improperly , because it doesn't know where the throttle is at .

In your climate , the heat riser will probably not be necessary .
If the heat riser valve isn't stuck , disconnecting the spring will allow the weight to drop and open the valve . Rendering the heat riser inoperative .

Below is a diagram of the throttle linkage ;

On my 55 I replaced the carb to manifold gasket with a 3/8 thick composite type gasket seemed to help with heat boiling the gas (vapor lock issues). I also would recommend changing to the Rochester 4gc if you haven't worked out any shifting issues you might have. By the way it gets pretty frosty on Vegas in February... Tedd

yea gidday ... yup linkages look all correct ..kick down and shifting was working great on delivery voyage.
Heat riser valve ???? Cant see one of those sorry , am waiting on work manual but delivery not good in NZ at the mo. Good news is we are coming out of lockdown on Thurs 😊😊
took a pic of where I thought valve might be ,as not on inlet manifold

yea .. have thought of doin that , in the conversion they have made the kickdown linkage adjustable .
We are on the upside down part of the world so February is our summer , our steering wheel on other side too so ya really need a co pilot in the Olds when overtaking 😊😊😊😊😁
thanks for your help
