Mobil 1 15w50 Zinc content

This may not belong here but I stumbled across this oils specs after I wiped the cam in a 396 I used to have. Just checked and this was last updated March 2017 so it still applies. Phosphorous is 1200 ppm and ZINC is 1300 ppm. Cheap off the shelf insurance available at Walmart for those of us still running flat tappet cams!

Thanks. Is there zinc in the other weights or is it only in the 15W-50?

I use it in my Harley. Much cheaper than any other 20W50 motorcycle oil you can find.

Everything but Euro spec 0w40, diesel, v twin and racing is all 900 or less. The racing has 1850 ppm zinc!

Don't get totally hung up on the amount of Zinc in the oil. Too much can inhibit ring seal.
I've been using the ZR-1 now for a couple of years. 0 issues. I think it has just the right amount for most applications.

Mark what viscosity do you use and what oil pressure do you look for hot?

20W-50 because I use looser than stock clearances. Once up to temp (about 180-195*) I normally have a 60 psi or so during a dyno pull.

Excellent! That's my pressure at idle and running at operating temp so that is good to know!

I assume it's high volume as I didn't build the engine because it jumps straight to 60 psi with any throttle increase

Just got some VR-1 10W-30. Gunna run it in my 455. Seems to be good reviews on VR1
