Picked up a 66 425. Guy I bought it from said he pulled it from a "67 toronado" the engine has B heads. On the head it has N7274S. Could someone please explain what the NS stand for if it does? Also I thought the toronado engines were all painted blue?

 

Bad news is that it isn't a Toro motor (yes, those were painted pale blue).

Good news is that the "N" indicates that it is a 1966 425 . The "S" indicates that it is a high compression 4bbl motor, either the L75 375 HP Starfire motor or the identical L77 Police Apprehender motor.

 

Does it have the exhaust manifolds on it? If so could you post pictures of them?

 

Unfortunately the guy I bought it from thought they were too heavy so he tossed them 😫😱😩

 

All 66 425 engines with smaller diameter lifters (non toro) have the 45 degree lifter bank angle so be careful if you change the cam so you get the correct one.

 

Thank you! I forfeited it did but thank you for the reminder. Does Lunati custom grind cams? Besides new lifters, cam, timing and gaskets, and couple more aftermarket parts I would like to keep it at factory compression and around 375-400 hp and 475-500 lb tq. Anything else you can think of to keep around there or will it be hard to keep it around there?

 

This is one of those might as well while I have it apart situations. Where does one stop.... Do you know the condition of the internals, bearings, pistons, rings, valves rockers? Have you heard it run? These are things to consider when changing old parts for new. Not sure who sells the 45 degree cams but they are out there.

 

Everything is in pretty good shape. I did hear it run and it sounds really good. Inspected and everything looks to be in great shape.
