I use Mr. Gasket #404 and paint the underside of the intake with Ceramic paint.

The factory used the one piece tin gasket so called turkey tray gasket. For a stock intake I always use these. At first it was said by a well known Olds guy that this type of gasket should not be used on aluminum intakes but it is also what GM used. My opinion is the paper style gaskets squish too much and require frequent re-torqueing...

I used the turkey tray on my 455 with an Edelbrock Performer and have no problems.

i have read that the performer was designed to use the turkey tray gasket. that is what i would recommend since it sounds like you are using a stock intake... matter of fact i think that any intake that is run with heads that don't have the crossovers blocked needs the turkey tray unless the bottom of the intake has been coated to resist heat...

I use a stock iron intake and heads, and always the turkey tray. People say the trayt is too keep the hot oil off the intake, but really I think it is more to keep oil from cooking on the heat riser passage of the intake manifold.

Hey Mark what kind of ceramic paint do you use and do you brush or spray it on?
