went HEI

i changed my dist. to hei,,,,When i go get plugs they do not offer hei plug wires for my year,,would plug wires for a 1974 olds 98 with hei work for my 1973 olds 98..

yup, just get them for any olds V8 that came with HEI.

Now you kinda have to be careful with that. They moved #1 in a couple of the books I have seen and that will change the layout of the wire lengths. Personally I prefer to cut my own wires to length. It takes a bit more time, but makes for a lot neater under hood.

I would just re-gap your spark plugs to .045 and be done with it. Olds was experimenting with HUGE gaps and all they do is stress the coil unduly.

I thought it was optional in 74 and standard in 75.

My dad had a 4 door Cutlass Supreme for a company car when I was a kid. It had a 350 4bl with regular points, ran real lean and consequently ran horribly. Then he had a 75 Caprice with a 400 and HEI, I remember that car running o.k.

X2. That would be correct. HEI came standard the same year we got catalytic converters.

so the gap should be .045 for a HEI set=up

If a set of plugs wires for a 74 dont work i will buy a custom set..

Plug wires for a 74 should work fine.
