Weird noise from back of engine
Telling someone their throw-out bearing can fail if they neglect it is good advice. Telling them they are too stupid to drive home if it does fail is arrogant and false.
I suggest a careful inspection of the release fork, the ball stud, the Z bar, the engine mounted Z bar ball stud and corresponding chassis bracket, the clutch pedal pivot bushings, and the clutch pedal and release lever push rods.
It has been my experience that many if not all of these components will be worn and require replacement after 50+ years of service. If you do reuse any of the components a through cleaning and lubrication of all friction points will restore the clutch system to like new performance.
