Temp gauge dropped 10-15 degrees: here's how

I the morning swapping out my unknown-age coolant hoses: radiator lower, radiator upper, J bypass, 3/4" heater core, and 5/8" heater core.

The real goal was swapping in a high flow Robertshaw 160 degree thermostat to replace a generic 160 degree to see if it made any temperature difference.

Under the MAW (mightaswell) heading, I flushed the system with distilled water and 2 bottles of Prestone flush for the past 2 days (maybe 40 miles + 15-20 minutes in the driveway).

2 days ago this motor ran just under 180 with a 160 degree generic thermostat. Today it's running 160-170. It's nice to see a gain once in a while.

This car has A/C. When I run it in traffic in Summer, with cr*ppy gas, temps creep up pretty fast - even with a boiled out (brass) 4 core radiator.

To fight the Summer temperature creep I've been living with a very loud 7 blade 19" fan and Hayden 2747 heavy duty fan clutch.

Now finally I can test that 6 blade fan and standard duty Hayden 2765 (quieter) fan clutch with confidence!

cheers
cf

I use the EP Stewart modified with 3 bypass holes Robert Shaw high flow stats as well. The only issue I had with one was sticking open and very little heat.
