Tear down

Dove in head first and tore it completely apart finished up in time to watch the race.
Check out the timing gear, I found the plastic junk in the oil pickup and the plug with the hole to oil the gear was plugged solid, just learned about that plug on this forum the other day. All in all it looks pretty good it was only supposed to have about 20k on it but I don't know now after seeing that gear but maybe just a crap design.
I'm going to have the block honed and cleaned then start to reassemble. Hopefully by next weekend.

Exclamation

Be sure that go remove the rear gally plugs, and replace them with the correct ones.

One of the rear ones has a .040" hole to oil the distributor gear.

Put in a solid plug, and the distributor gear will wear out faster.

Boy do those pictures look familiar. Finished one 455 last summer. Starting on another one in a week or two. Good luck on you build. Show some assemble pictures as well.

Its going to be another week waiting for all the parts I need so I decided to smooth the ports in the heads before putting the valves and springs back in.
Thats allot of work I have about 7-8 hours over the past couple of days in just one head but it should help it out some.
Has anyone had their heads ported? And how much did it increase flow?
I ask because there seems to be allot of extra material that could be taken out but Im chicken and dont have a flow bench. And what did it cost?

I did the opposite of you. I sold the 350 out of the car first, and now I'm tearing down the 455. I have just about everything off except the crank, and pistons.

One question. Did you pull the crank timing pulley and flywheel off before or after the crank came out? And how did you get the crank timing pulley off? Did it slide off after the key is out, or is it a press fit? Thanks.

Post some assembly pictures too....

Since I am not to far from you, just go ahead and pull the engine and put it in my car That way people will still be able to hear it run, and dont worry, I wont charge you any money.

I pulled the crank gear off before taking out the crank. I used a harmonic ballancer puller to get it off then the gear will slide off easily.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Good one!
