Tailpipe time - Will these work?
Looking for some tailpipes but haven't had any luck sourcing originals. Will these work until I can find some? I don't care if I can't put the tips on at this point. I will save what I have and put those on when I find some original pipes someday.
What do I need to measure to check? I've never measured one of these before, is it inside diameter? I'm looking for direct fit, just clamp and go. Let me know if these require welding.

I had a set of NOS 442 tail pipes for 70 - 72 442 thru / under bumper exhaust
I took them to heart throb exhaust and they laser scanned them into their data base and they made me 5 sets
They are also set 4 side / center muffler as factory
you could try contact them???
maybe there are adapters or some side
in
out
glass pack mufflers that would make you happy

I was saying in the event you could spend an extra 50 bucks buy new glass packs and run the less expensive tail pipes. Even the thrush welded chamber mufflers are only 25 bucks a pop . Sound like flowmasters. But if the pipes are only 160 vs the correct pipes being 400 I'd spend half and end up with new mufflers lol. Unless you want the o.e. correct stuff or close to it. BTW I found the same tail pipe kits online for 20 bucks cheaper. Google shopping is awesome lol.

Thanks Copper
I was thinking same thought
buy that repro save a few hundred bucks
i have no vested interest in anyone buying the hearthrob stuff
i just did not to pay gardner $1200 for their kit
my 72 was done at a custom shop exhaust was $500 plus wax
It all is what an olds guy wants / thinks he needs LoL
keep the shiny side up

Even Walmart has some game now: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Flowmaster...-1-Pr/49930578
What I want to do is just get a system in place (glasspacks and pipes) and eventually find NOS pipes. They do show up from time to time on eBay and elsewhere.
I'm assuming I'd spend at least $500 for a set of the Heart Throb by the time they add in shipping. I'd rather place that money toward the glasspacks because I'm gonna need those anyway. Thanks for checking though.

The joke that you can pretty much build an sbc by buying parts at Walmart will one day be true lol. Amazon is also awesome for buying parts. You just gotta crossrefrence the part numbers to make sure you are getting what you need. I have a prime account so free 2 day shipping. It's great.

Those glasspacks look to be offset. If they have a bend in the rear aswell then they are offset offset if it's straight on the rear it's offset inlet center outlet. But you could buy a small bend to make it work. Or even have a local shop make the bend.

Any chance you would be able to tell what brand these glasspacks are? The car has been sitting since 1982 and I assume it took at least 5 years to rust them out. So mid 70's maybe?
Here is the pic I should have got you. Had to get my better camera. My garage is dark and spooky. HA!

the one i showed is slightly longer by 1 7/16 in. which in reality is not much. when piecing together an exhaust like this you want a little extra to trim it and make it fit really nice. Yes it should work. with little to no trimming. keep in mind everything slips into everything else so you want a little extra. If you feel you ned to trim stuff i highly recommend an exhaust cutter. Best 20 bucks you will spend for perfectly round cuts. I have done alot of exhaust systems and i prefer it vs. a sawzall.
I may add the part number i showed has one end that is 2.25. they should sell a 2.5 in and out . I just showed that part number to show you can still get those glasspacks.

I dont know if you caught my edit but i mentioned the outlet is 2.25. I tried to find a 2.5 outlet vs. the 2.5 and 2.25 configuration to no luck but thats an easy fix you can use a simple reducer backwards to upsize the outlet.

Hey, hey, hey, hey....hold on one second....can I do something like this???

Hey, hey, hey, hey....hold on one second....can I do something like this??? Amazon.com: Flowtech 50231FLT Purple Hornies 3-Hole Turnout Header Muffler: Automotive
Im also looking into the Flow Master tailpipes. I have turn downs on my Dynomax mufflers. I would like to use the tailpipes. Please post your feedback so I can buy them myself.
#32
I will let you know how they turn out. At $80, I just CL them if I don't like them and don't lose a cent. Ok, maybe $5.
#33
Ok, so now a new problem. They don't work with the headers that are on the car. The flange is too small to bolt up. Could go with a reducer, but they only have one flange not two. If anyone here has any ideas to fix without welding, I'm all ears.
#34
You could buy the proper flanges for the purple hornies if thats what you are using. cut the ones that are on there. and use something like the link i posted. Btw most advanced or orileys sell these kind of reducers with the bolt on header rings.
