Stumble above about 4300
For starters I own a shop and being 39, I usually let my shop foreman work on my Oldsmobile, he’s our guy on the older stuff.Anyhow. We can’t seem to get a sputtering stumble to go away around 4200-4300 around to 5500. We bumped up base timing and the car seems to like 21 initial. It definitely gets better as it warms up.
If your at those rpm ranges at 80% throttle it seems to be fine but if you give it all the coal it can’t smoothly go through that last 1000 rpms.
Running a stock distributor with pertronix hei. Engle cam, I think 3rd grind from the bottom. Mahle ported pistons. Blocked off heat risers. Comp magnum rockers.
2600’ elevation.
I’ll be glad to give you any more information you might need
