Strong gas smell after running car for 20 minutes and shutting off

Hello All,

Need some help identify a very strong gasoline smell. My car is a 1964 98 with a 394, with 4 barrel rochester carb.

What is happening is that when I take the car for a drive and then bring it back to the house, there is a very strong smell of raw gasoline coming from the engine compartment. I am not seeing any obvious fuel leaks, but the smell seems to be coming from the carburetor area. No signs of leak outside of the carb.

Obviously when I shut off the car, there is some fuel still in the carburetor bowls and I am assuming that fuel could produce some gas smell, which the car always had, but now the smell of gas has become overwhelming.

I have checked the carb floats and needles, and it all looks good.

The smell is only after running the car for a good 20 minutes and then turning the engine off. After 4 to 5 hours the smell is gone.

Any help of suggestions on how to attack the problem would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Take the air cleaner off and look down into the carb to see if there is dripping after the engine is turned off. Also check all your rubber lines.
