hi guys..can someone tell me whats the deal with that fuel inlet??

looks kinda strange...carb number is 7040252

 

Kinda hard to tell. Stripped at one time, then replaced with a heli-coil?
Does it still have it's fuel filter housing, or did they screw the line right into the carb?

 

fuel filter housing is missing. is that heli coil a problem?

 

If the fuel line screws into your carb, I guess that would be ok, but you need to put an inline filter right behind that line, if not, whatever comes through the fuel pump, out of the tank, will go right into your carb...

 

ok i see...but what kind of fuel line do i need then? a heli coil for qjet has to look like this right? looks different

 

I don't belive that's an olds carb. But a shorty carb filter should go in there.
Is it all glued together? All a heli-coil is, is a fix for stripped threads, made in
different sizes. Fuel line is a standard size 3/8. Any GM product from the era
will suffice as far as a line goes. May have to bend some here or there, good luck
to you. Like those old toro's. Had a '68 myself.

 

so that second pic is just an example for a helicoil i found on the internet..wich looks different regarding the pic in the 1st post..even if its not an olds carb the helicoil system should be the same right?

i asked the owner of the carb in the 1st post to shot some more pics..i'll keep you posted. i guess the carb filter is not the problem here (u can a use an inline filter easily)...but...i just cant imagine how to fit a fuel line in there o.O

 

A Helicoil is a wire thread repair that rebuilds the existing stripped threads. The second picture you posted appears to be one of the self-tapping repair fittings, which is completely different.

Your first pic has threads cut deep in the carb main body. I'm not sure what the reasoning for this is. Where the original threads were is now some kind of metal collar (at least it looks like metal). Does this rig now screw deep inside and seal against that collar? I'd like to see the inlet fitting that now works with what you have in that picture.

 

so heres the sellers answer and some new pics, maybe u can say if its worth rebuilding the carb....i'm not really sure about it:

"I think these pics should show pretty good what the issue is. As you can see there is some type of insert or bushing where the original carb threads are. Beyond that you can see a threaded insert, it is in there loose. I assume someone put that in there thinking they could screw a fuel line to that, however I don't see how that is possible since it turns around in there. I would think the outer bushing could be removed and that insert taken out. "
