ready to build
I bought a 68 455 F block a few weeks ago I'm looking for a street build not sure which way to go with it. I need heads and I have a 650 double holly carb should I upgrade the carb? I'm not very educated on these older cars yet.

IIll definitely be a street car I just want it to be able to pick up and go so I'm not embarrassed when someone trys to race me even though most of the cars are tuners or old school cars with big rims around here haha. My budget isn't super high I have about 3000 to start and a couple hundred to spend a month on top of that. It is an olds so the more torque the better as long as I don't risk messing anything up. I just need a starter build for dummies for right now.

Food for thought. If you build the short block properly, which will cost a little more than a basic rebuild, you can continue to improve the heads, intake, cam, etc., as the years go by. Doing so saves you a lot of money in the long run. I've seen guys throw a lot of money away because they built engine after engine each time with a minor internal upgrade to go with a new set if heads or whatever. So think it over. The machine work is going to cost the same no matter what parts you put inside it. If you can hold out to buy a few hundred bucks worth of better parts you'll save thousands upon thousands in the long run.
