Rare timing marks on balancer/block?
Got some small time this evening to install the cables again and adjust the disturbutor when engine running, i will drive test it tomorrow , anyway i turn the vacuum advance 1 turn counterclockwise from all the way in from clockwise just to have a beginning point, so the spring is almost on max loose..
Set the timing to 34degrees in 2800-3000rpm, got around 20 on idle, and. 48-49 with vacuum connected on higher rpm.
Our fuel here we use is 95 oktan gasoline btw..
I will test drive tomorrow and see if i need to adjust the vacuum advanve more...
The trottle respons is not so very fast now from idle, but its ok.. To be continue..

Have test and adjust vacum clock today too when driving, tried without vacuum hoose connected and have still some pinging specially in 3 gear and pedal to the floor..
What should i do now? Install a pair of heavyer springs for HEI, and adjust things from the start and maybe without the spacer inside?
Or swap over the old GM delco (hei) ? Disturbutor from my 307? Guess it makes not so much ignition... Hmm .. Help? Lol
But tomorrow the crane limiter will arrived, so i will install it on max and try again. Or is it pointless when its still ping a bit without vacuum connected?

Adjusted the disturbutor down to 12degrees on idle, will test drive tomorrow and if the pinging is away then, i will try to advance the disturbutor up until i get pinging again and adjust it back a bit, will try 1-2 degrees each adjust with driving between..
And try to have much vacuum as i can have before pinging to get most out of it...
Just think 20degrees on idle 35 on 3000rpm and 50degrees without vacuum is to much for our fuel octane here..

Allright a little update again, adjusted the timing to 16 on idle in 800rpm, and it have 32 in 3000rpm, hooked up the vacum hoose and took a test drive, cant hear nothing special now, i adjust the vacuum spring bell about maybe 2 rounds clockwise from all inn.
Now i only hear some pinging (i think) when the car have 3000rpm in 3 gear on the highway in about 90mph
Will try the crane limiter tomorrow and place the timing on 16 again.
When i park the car i checked what springs the carb has and it have the red springs, to adding some more gasoline i guess...
And then i found out that my manual chocke was on a little so i took it complete off.. Could this effect some of the pinging? When i took it off i got back good throttle respons from idle. I guess this is why the engine use much gasoline too.... Will try more tomorrow...

Hi again, nothing of this work, using cranelimiter, stiffer springs in disturbutor and still pinging when the advance is set to 15degrees, and driving uphills or in 3000rpms + with full pedal, have try to get rid of much weight in the car too without help..
BUT, I THINK, my exhaust is to small for this engine so the engine cant breath enought and cause pinging?? I got new exhaust leakage now on my old header gasket.
So i think is to much exhausr pressures that want to get out!
When i engineswap i just connect the headers on the exhaust i allready have that time so i would have it driveable. 2,5 small pipes out from headers to a "y" shape into a 3" pipe that goes on a muffler and 2" out from there and back, i think this is to crazy and bad exhaust for an bbo. Look at the pic! Im laughing of the design.
My toughts is to install the exhaust system my plan was. And it will go 2,5" pipes all the way backward to one muffler on each side, before it goes to the 2" rearaxle pipes.. Hopefully the engine will breath more and work easyer on this heavy car and i can use higher advance! And the engine will got some more Hp and TQ than like it is now on the crappy exhaust. What your toughts?
And i bought the expencivest innova timing gun, its so fancy and work good last i try!
And a vacuum gauge from ebay that can tell me some numbers is nice to have when setting timing.
