wanted to check timing but cant tell where marks are on tab anyone have a diagram of this also my book shows 7.5 timing others show tdc what should it be on my 442?thanks for any help

 

Bullet, I'm not home to get you a diagram or picture. The tab has the "v" grooves in it. IIRC, the first one is 0, and the last one is 10. They are cut out on the tab as a circle and 10. You'll get all kinds of different answers on timing. Book is correct if you have stock cam, distributer, and compression. Otherwise, go all in no vacuum at 34, add or subtract 2 degrees until it's happy.

 

bumped timing up it was a 0tdc set to about 7.5 definitely helped actually squawk tires a little when you get on her.now i know where im at picked up hei distributor this weekend get new plugs and wires on. get her to run better yet.

Anybody find pictures of the timing tab? I've got a 1969 455 and can't tell where the numbers are on the tab.

 

The HEI is going to change your initial drastically. HEI distributors use a way different advance curve with more initial and less mechanical advance unless it has been modified with an advance curve kit.
When you drop in the HEI it's going to need 20° initial @ 1100 RPM.

 

It is hard to see in the pictures. The bottom "V" is zero, the middle is five, and the top "V" is 10.
